| To respond to the text of a lecture by Nobel laureate and poet Seamus Heaney, upon receipt of an Honorary degree from the University of Dundee. The 3-D constructions were used as illustrations for a limited edition artists book, "Room to Rhyme". This box-construction, from which several of the illustrations were gleaned, incorporates text from a Thomas Hardy poem, "The Self-Unseeing", quoted by Heaney in his lecture. My intention is to evoke a sense of place - to make you feel as if you are in the room being described by Heaney, loaded with memories such as those evoked by Hardy in his poem. 3D construction photographed by Douglas McBride. |
